How to Have a Picture Party at Your Apartment

Want to have some cheap fun in your apartment without causing too much destruction and havoc? Have a picture party!

And by party, I don’t mean inviting tons and tons of people. I’d advise, for your sake and for your neighbors’ sake, limit your guest list to 5-8 people. Also, be sure that the ones whom you invite are creative and good with cameras. At the end of this event, you want to come away with hundreds of really great photos from a variety of different eyes that will immortalize your apartment and help you retain those often awesome, yet fleeting memories.

And if you take some really awesome pictures that feature your sweet looking apartment…be sure to share them with your apartment manager! Maybe they could use them to show how great and fun their apartments can be…Just a thought.

There are two ways of having this event.

1) Got Digital? - Have each of your guests bring their own digital camera and the cables or card readers they’ll need to transfer any pics to your computer. Schedule some board games or other fun activities as well as place a number of fun, cool looking objects around the apartment. Of course, you will want to have a few snacks and refreshments available. (Remember adult beverages should be for adults only and handled responsibly)

You’ll want to have a timer that goes off at a set time every couple of minutes or so, which will be time for every guest to take a picture. Doesn’t really matter of what as long as it’s a cool pic!

Then after a couple of hours, transfer all of the pictures over to your computer, have a slide show, and a ton of great laughs!

Disposable Disco- This one is more for those who are less concerned with perfect pictures and more concerned with the element of surprise. Supply each of your guests with a disposable camera as soon as they walk through your door. Follow the same activity and time guidelines as above, but every 10 minutes have everyone put all the cameras into a bag, shake them up, and then pull out another camera. This really mixes it up!

You could then take a group trip to your nearest one hour photo lab and see if they’d be able to actually print all the pics within an hour. If so, kill some time shopping or grabbing a drink while the pictures are being developed. After you pick them up, take them all back to the apartment and spread them out all over the floor.

You’ll come away with a bunch of great pics and possibly some great new decorating ideas with all the excellent photos.

Quick tip: If you keep your apartment well lit, make sure that you don’t use the flash. Flashes have a tendency of really white washing out pictures and if you can get around using one because your room is really bright…do it!

Either way you decide to do it, if you end up hosting one of these picture taking events, post your pictures on an account at Flickr and post a link to your pics in a comment on this blog. I’d love to share them in our blogs!

    That’s nice ;-)
    I remember the first time I went to O’Hare. I had just lost my Brazilian passport (in New York, early 2003), and had a military ID (issued in Rio de Janeiro), and the guy who was checking IDs asked if I had a passport. I was freaking out… Lol. Then his supervisor said it was OK for me to travel with my military ID. Ironically, I just lost my passport again… last night. I don’t remember putting my cell phone number on it, thus I don’t think I’ll recover it, sadly ;-(

    Starting your own business is hard work and long hours but worth the time and energy put into it. I know, I did it.

    Design and print business cards from your puter. Office Max, etc. have a nice variety of card stock, in fact, they even had magnetic business cards you can print right from you puter. Design your flyers the same way.

    Organization is key. But once you've let the public know you are in business, you should start getting jobs.

    What busy Mom now days would love someone to plan their kid's B-day party.

    Also heard about a woman that will plan "Dates" for busy business men. Add that to your party planning business. You know, order the flowers, make the reservations, etc.

    As busy as people are today, you should have enough business that after a while you may need to hire help!

    Good Luck!

    p.s. Word of mouth is the best advertising. Encourage the people who's parties you've done to tell others. Offer a discount if they refer friends and relatives.

    i think its a great idea. you should use something that you could leave up all the year round like Ansel Adams prints, he has some fantastic black and white images lots of them are trees with snow on them, mountains with snow on them etc. these kinds of classic pics look good 365 days a year.

    My husband and I had this same problem at our previous apartment we used to live in. I actually got very good advice from the people here on Answers. What I did was to record the noise and I also took pictures. I also contacted an attorney about the problems going on. I called the police which unfortunately did no good. After months of trying to get anything done by police, the landlord and anyone who would even listen, my family and I moved after the people started terrorizing us. It was getting two dangerous for us to continue living there. I do wish you the very best of luck in this situation because it may possibly get dangerous to you. You may also sue your landlord for letting this continue. Good Luck!

    I used Wikipedia as data source for the GDP comparison between LA and Chicago. LA has a 179 billion dollars higher GDP than Chicago. It may change within a year, but not so likely. I used to travel to Chicago a lot, for business, pleasure and… well… I was in and out of love with someone there… lol… 7 years ago. I thought it was yesterday… lol.
    What do you do in Chicago? What kind of work? Involved with performing arts somehow?

  7. LucasEllerNewYork on June 22nd, 2007 2:47 pm

    3. Los Angeles: 639 billion dollars;
    4. Chicago: 460 billion dollars.
    According with whatever data info, I found it on Wikipedia, Chicago and Paris have the same GDP. I’m sure it can’t be the same exact number, so Paris comes out as 5th largest economy among cities worldwide.

    I dont think you're being paranoid.
    You're just one of the people who dont like being shown on the internet.
    Thats normal.

    i think we’re actually wealthier than LA right now cause LA’s unemployment rate is higher than Chicago’s & they dont have federal reserves & futures stock exchanges like we do. hollywood can only do so much for LA but right now not enough.

    Take down pictures off one wall and go but movie posters or posters of Marilyn Monroe etc. and put on wall as backdrop.

    Ask friends if they have anything like this at home.

    you're going to marry him, not his family… or his mother! if you love him, you wouldn't second guess the marriage over his mother. if i were you i would tell her to butt out. honestly i feel like things will be better once you're in an apartment together. she probably feels like she's losing her baby, and is just being protective. after you've been around for six years, i wouldn't think she would act like this.

    i'm not engaged yet, but we've been looking at rings. i used to love his family, but his mom and grandparents drive me crazy. i never feel like i'm good enough, or like my ideas are good enough. he's diabetic, and has an insulin pump. in order to keep the pump, there are expensive medical supplies needed… she ALWAYS threatens to not let him have his supplies anymore, which would kill him. so i can tell you that she drives me crazy. but i deal with her because i love him. i also know that once we move in together/are engaged/get married that i cut her out of my life to some extent.

    i would say to stay with him. you don't want to lose him. i mean you're getting married! congrats! just deal with her, and i'm sure after the wedding things will calm down. and if she contines to get on your nerves, talk to your fiance. tell him that he needs to talk to his mother. if that doesn't work, talk to her yourself. say that you don't want to be rude, but… and explain the way she makes you feel. if she doesn't get it then. then i would be rude. because it's your wedding and your future.

    good luck!

    It’s funny we don’t think much about it, Chicago is actually the 4th wealthiest city in the world, after:
    1. Tokyo (nobody talks about it, because the Japanese are lame bitches… lol;
    2. New York (among the only 2 cities worldwide with a GDP surpassing 1,1 trillion dollars, not so distant from Tokyo numberwise);
    3. Los Angeles;
    4. Chicago.

    I don't know if they're covering this show yet, but check http://www.TunesOnTheTube.tv —they've got a list of all the songs played in every episode of TONS of different TV shows, along with links to download those songs—as well as links to download the full episodes.
    Hope that helps!

    I don't know if this is possible but do you have a local hall that you could hire for the party. Where I live, every town has a hall that is available for dances, parties, judo classes etc etc. You would have all the facilities you need, such as toilets, access to kitchen facilities, generally easy parking for your guests, etc. Hire a band or a juke box, get come caterers in or do your own cooking and get your dad or another male adult to mc the events. Make it invitation only, as you don't want all the gate crashers turning up too. If no local hall, how about hiring the town hall of your local council. As a final thought, do you have a friend with room at their place for your party? All you need is a place inside with enough room for you and friends. Hope you find something.
