Summer Decoration Tips

Decorating can be just like picking an outfit to wear. Seasons can effect what is “in” and what is “out.” So don’t get caught off guard this Spring/Summer and pay close attention, as I am going to give you some tips for decorating your apartment this season.

Buckle Up!

Airy, Fruity Colors- Add some bright vibrant colors to your living room. Perhaps an orange lampshade and throw pillow, off set by a light green rug or throw blanket. Match the color of your accessories with a freshly painted and vibrant wall. Stop by your local flea market in search of bright colored vases or other colorful pieces to place throughout and radiate the warmth of spring.

Don’t Forget The Bedroom- Wrap your beds headboard with a brightly colored fabric. it doesn’t have to cover the whole thing, just part of it. Visit your local Target, Bed-Bath & Beyond, or other super store and pick out some “springy” new sheets, pillowcases, and a comforter. Have a big window in your bedroom? Cover it with a white sheer drape and then a brightly colored curtain.

Springtime Centerpieces- We all know that the winter going away and the spring warmth brings flowers that last through the summer. Bring that natural decoration inside. Use fresh flowers as centerpieces! You might even float plants or flowers in a glass bowl as a center piece. Add a few floating votives to illuminate at night and you suddenly have a wonderful and conversational centerpiece. You might even go as simple as placing some bright colored fruit in a bowl and going with that. Simple, springy, and fun.

Accent the Plain Walls- Bare walls can be a bore, so be sure and accent them with some color. One easy way to do this is to take some cheap frames and frame colorful wrapping paper or art. Then hang a series of these on the walls. You might also look into peel-and-stick wall decals to place throughout your apartment. They are a cheap, easy way to get accessorize those walls. You can even use them on furniture, cabinets, and other flat surfaces that need a little dressing up.

One of my favorite wall decorating ides involves the cheap frames again. Take some cheap cardboard coasters and put each one inside their individual frame. Then hang them on a wall in a series to look at. Its a fun way to create some art.

The patterns- If you are looking for patterns rather than solid colors for your fabric materials, try large dots, stripes, shapes, and floral patterns. Nothing says spring like that. (And don’t try things like duck or animal patterns…they just look kind of tacky)

Las Ventanas-Honestly, one of the best ways to “Springalize” any room is to do something new and bright with the windows. Whether its a new window treatment or hanging some stained glass or something else, changing this up will add a whole new dimension to any room.

Follow some of these little ideas or come up with your own. Either way, just remember that your apartment and how it looks is a reflection as you. Decorate! It’s fun and fantastic.

Calla lilies (white variety) are hardy & easy to grow. They should get direct sunlight no more than have a half day. However they need to be established before you can depend on them for flowers. I would not count on then for any flowers untill after their second year.

    Best Wishes!

I had a friend that used little glass bowls with beta fish and colorful rocks for table centerpieces. They were adorable and most people took one home after the party.

hammocks are hell for your back, went down to visit my grandparents in colombia, had to sleep in one for a month and I never got used to it. After like 2 1/2 weeks I gave up and slept on the ground. My back still aches every time I think about it.

P.S. I'm only 16, so it's not like i'm some old fart with a back problem either.

The picture is a good idea! Also, have a book of blank pages, and ask everyone to bring pictures of themselves, and of all your fun memories together. Then everyone gets to make one or more pages – as many as they want! – by gluing in the pictures, and writing down the stories that go with them. Also write how you feel about Kendra – all her great qualities, that you love, and will miss.

A pool party is also a cool idea! Decorate with tonz of chains of lights in trees and bushes.

For food, have a barbecue! Hot dogs, burgers, chicken on skewers etc. Everything you like. And a big salad to go with that.
Have grilled fruits and ice cream for dessert.
Definitely keep it simple – it's about you girls and your friendship, not about showing off cooking skills!!

Make mocktails – you can get all kinds of good mixers and sodas, and do tropical style drinks with fruit and umbrellas. Maybe you could even hire a professional bartender, to do some show-off-mixing-bottle-juggling etc, just for an hour or two.
Then maybe have a contest – who can invent the most delicious mocktail .. which will of course henceforth be known as a Kendra ;)

Balloons, the cheaper the better, also go down to your local craft-store or somewhere and buy ribbon, then get a pair of scissors and open them, CAREFULLY run the one of the blades down the ribbon, it should curl back on the side you ran the blade down, you can then hang these from places, the more odd/imaginative the better.

    Malanok

P.S you can see what I mean by the scissors here:

not through the ribbon, along it (from the picture, pull the ribbon between the thumb and blade)
P.P.S sorry if it appears that I am talking down to you, I just don't want you (or anyone else) to cut yourself (themselves) because of me

I just did a small informal party and set up a smoothie bar. I put all the ingredients out in bowls, cups, long spoons, straws and a blender. People loved it and had fun making different combinations of things. Below are some things I included:

frozen fruit chunks (in big bags from Costco)
    orange juice and lemonade
    ice
    chocolate syrup
    coconut creme
    half-and-half
    crushed pineapple
    ice cream
    flavored syrups

    Have fun!

Most people around my area use potted mums for their autumn decorating..they come in great colours…small pumpkins/gourds can be spread about too.

it's already good. provide snacks, something to do and lots of people and you're already set to have a good party, people will just talk & entertain themselves. maybe set up an area somewhere in your yard with a bunch of chairs and a bonfire to just add to the party and give a place to sit down, summer bonfires are the besttt. :)
