Help answer the question about loft apartment living
How can I break my apartment lease?I am having a baby in August and my lease isn't up until October. I live in a one bedroom, loft apartment. Technically it is one bedroom and you aren't supposed to have more than two people in a one bedroom. We already have one child living with us so another would make four people in a one bedroom apartment. Is that grounds to legally break a lease without having to pay the rent until october?
What about if someone in the house is Law enforcement and their job is transferring them?

aj, stop calling Houston a wannabe city of NYC. Houston has a lot more history, a lot more pride, and obiously a lot better citizens, because if you are from NYC, then it would be a living hell.
now to answer the question, the rates can range from anywhere from $400 to $1500, depending on the area its in, how big it is, and how many luxuries there are.
Expensive, probably. Why not get a listing of rental homes in the downtown area? There are older homes closer to UH that are rented out to students.
I know of two websites that I have used to find apartments. You can enter the criteria that you are looking for in the advanced search including the area of the city that you find attractive. http://www.rent.com and http://www.apartments.com These websites are extremely helpful.
Check these guys out they are owned by eBAY.
http://www.rent.com/guest/texas/houston-and-vicinity/houston/?pse=1
If you are in town there are free apartment guides in front of every grocery store.
If your not ask a friend to grab one and call her/him.
Also check out craigslist for Houston they usually have some listed.
Beleive me you do NOT want to live next to the South Texas College–downtown is a little sketchy but if you want try the Alexan Lofts, The Rice Lofts, St. Germain Lofts, all downtown–
Midtown: much better location, and within walking distance of all bars, lounges, and professional young crowd.
Post Apartments
Camden Midtown
post Lofts
2222 Smith (have tons of friends that live there, and it has a real awesome pool that everyone hangs out at during the summer with some hotties!)
The Calias-
try http://www.rent.com and type in zip code 77006, or 77007 both midtown/downtown
also if you are thinking townhome try http://www.har.com
City Vista is also realllly nice in upper midtown which is where I am thinking about moving back to—
Good Luck, and congrats on getting into law school.
I was actually just looking at those.
They're in a decent area. Downtown Houston is no more dangerous than the downtown area of any other major city.
If you want to live in the Galleria or Midtown area you could take the LightRail train to downtown and avoid any traffic.
**EDIT: Those apartments are in the heart of of downtown. The girl below me mentioned the bus stop, which is actually just outside of downtown, right past the McDonalds by the freeway. I think she is thinking of anoher complex that is near there but on Main street, and those are very old.
Very possible. Some friends of mine have rental property in that price range. Apartments might be hard to find. Ask about the Houston Heights or Montrose areas. These are close to down town, near entertainment. Email me for some property contacts.
MIDTOWN….TRY THE POST AT MIDTOWN SQUARE. THERE REALLY NICE WITH RESTAURANTS, BARS, AND CLUBS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. AND A CVS ACROSS THE STREET.
Not sure what you are looking for, specifically,I suggest checking out http://www.craigslist.com & http://www.rentals.com
How large? amenities?
