You are planning to or have already moved to a new apartment. Or may be you want to redo the interior decoration of the apartment you are already staying in. Decorating your apartment can be a fun job provided you plan well. Here are some apartment decorating tips for you to keep in mind.
1. The most important apartment decorating tip anyone will give you is to plan well. Coming up with a realistic budget is extremely important. Now plan what you want to do in each room. Pore over decorating magazines and surf the internet for ideas. Write or draw the things you would like in your bedroom, living room, dining room and kitchen. Decide everything, including the color of the walls, wall decorations, furniture, curtains, drapes and lighting.
2. Having a not-so-huge budget does not mean that you can’t have a beautiful home. It only means that you have to be smart and creative. Yard sales and flea markets will save you a whole lot of money if you are not too snobbish about using second-hand stuff! You will get wonderful vintage items in estate sales. Choose items that will suit the theme you want in your apartment.
3. If you are good with your hands, you can sew the curtains and drapes of your apartment after buying the material. It will not only help you save money, you will also have a lot of fun doing it. You can also make decorative items from used objects.
4. If you are on a tight budget why don’t you do the painting of your new apartment yourself? Everyone in the family can join in. Not only will you have fun, you will also be able to spend quality time with your loved ones.
5. Apartments tend to be small so it’s important to use furniture, lighting and colors in a way that will make it look bigger than it really is. Buy furniture that is slender and not chunky. They will not only save up space, but will also look trendier. Asymmetrical shelves look modern. They also provide a place for keeping books and knick-knacks. Wrap-around sofas are cool to look at. Buy one in a dark color.
6. Use bright and happy colors on the walls of your apartment. They will create a warm ambience and an illusion of space.
7. Avoid using too much upholstery if your apartment is not too big.
8. The dining area should be given special importance. Choosing a foldable dining table is a great idea if you want to save space. Keep this area simple, warm and friendly where the whole family can sit down and enjoy mealtimes.
9. Got a lot of household stuff you want to hide? Store them under the bed! It makes a great storage place for items you don’t need everyday.
10. Use mirrors to create an illusion of space in your apartment. Placing large mirrors strategically makes a room look larger than t is.
Interior decorating your home is not a chore. It’s fun and fulfilling! Follow these apartment decorating tips to create a home you have always wanted.

Moving into an apartment for first time. Tips?I am moving out of my parents house and into an apartment with a friend. I have lived on my own before (during college) so this is not a "brand" new experience but living in an apartment will be. Does anyone have any first time apartment tips, living on my own tips, etc.
Thanks

That’s nice
I remember the first time I went to O’Hare. I had just lost my Brazilian passport (in New York, early 2003), and had a military ID (issued in Rio de Janeiro), and the guy who was checking IDs asked if I had a passport. I was freaking out… Lol. Then his supervisor said it was OK for me to travel with my military ID. Ironically, I just lost my passport again… last night. I don’t remember putting my cell phone number on it, thus I don’t think I’ll recover it, sadly ;-(
NEW YUCK CITY!
The success of any decorating scheme depends on how well it suits all the members of your family. To create a décor that you will be happy with, think about what you want and also what you don’t want.
It’s a good idea to know what you have before you begun to change things. As you begin to pull your design ideas together, think about your preference and what will work in your home.
Color can work wonders… it can change the look of a room and change your feeling about the room. You can start by looking through magazines, and catalogs. Give yourself plenty of time, it will take longer than you think, and your ideas will develop as you go.
Gathering samples is a great way to begin. If you are starting with a color, your samples might include fabric, paint chips, wallpaper, carpet, wood, stone, and tile.
Knowing what you can spend on a project will give you a clearer idea of what you can achieve. If you’ll on a limited budget, mark off those things that will make the most difference, such as a new wall color and a new sofa.
You can set the mood of a room in lots of ways, such as lights, and furnishings. There are no hard or fast rules or must-do sequence for this process.
I think along with the scotch and glasses, you should add…
A modern, chic black and white ashtray. And maybe for the third item (if you smoke cigars) a sleek, black and white pencil cup type thing for hand-rolled cigars. (or you can use a cigar tray)
You might want to start with an area rug to define your space. This site has some great discount rugs in great materials like sisal and bamboo.

its actually a great idea for you to move all your stuff back and in the center of your stuf put a conversation peice in the middle like a really cool coffe table with a vase on it aand some flowers from peir 1
I'm assuming you can't paint the walls, so you could put some fabric up if you need color or a large piece of wall art. You could get a headboard for your bed to take up some wall space too. You could get a desk and a cork board or a magic eraser board.
I used Wikipedia as data source for the GDP comparison between LA and Chicago. LA has a 179 billion dollars higher GDP than Chicago. It may change within a year, but not so likely. I used to travel to Chicago a lot, for business, pleasure and… well… I was in and out of love with someone there… lol… 7 years ago. I thought it was yesterday… lol.
What do you do in Chicago? What kind of work? Involved with performing arts somehow?
3. Los Angeles: 639 billion dollars;
4. Chicago: 460 billion dollars.
According with whatever data info, I found it on Wikipedia, Chicago and Paris have the same GDP. I’m sure it can’t be the same exact number, so Paris comes out as 5th largest economy among cities worldwide.
ha ha im betting u probably aint got no job or may be got one & not makin shit & still gotta live with mommy & daddy in NY. lol!
i think we’re actually wealthier than LA right now cause LA’s unemployment rate is higher than Chicago’s & they dont have federal reserves & futures stock exchanges like we do. hollywood can only do so much for LA but right now not enough.
Lol…
It’s funny we don’t think much about it, Chicago is actually the 4th wealthiest city in the world, after:
1. Tokyo (nobody talks about it, because the Japanese are lame bitches… lol;
2. New York (among the only 2 cities worldwide with a GDP surpassing 1,1 trillion dollars, not so distant from Tokyo numberwise);
3. Los Angeles;
4. Chicago.
CHI-TOWN sure sounds better than the BIG ROTTEN APPLE.
Okay. for that blank wall…..you will need to take very thin strips of molding…really really cheap flimsy stuff from Home Depot or the like, you will place these all along the edges of the wall – this striip is where you will staple fabric (yes, when you leave you will need to spackle the holes but no paint will have touched the walls so you will be not having a "lease problem). The fabric perhaps will be red – or you can use whatever will enhance the colors of the japanese culture or knick-nacks you already have. The other idea, which is also inexpensive is to get a nice picture of a japanese landscape – the colors in it can be used for your pillows, and drapes – of all the "tricks" of decorating PAINT is the least expensive, but check your lease. Depending on the size of your "nick-knacks" a couple of shelves painted (again, trip to Home Depot lumber dept., NOT the already made dept.) in a color complimentary to the knick knacks – put your largest seating in front of this wall, buy a few plants (again, Home Depot) tall, small and inbetween,
plants are also another inexpensive way to go. A couple of
Goldfish (in colors to match decor – check the pet store, they will know which fish to put in the bowl) and it will become
home. Enjoy!
Less is more! Decide what you really NEED to make the space liveable, and only furnish with those pieces. For windowns, nice simple shades from Smith & Noble can make a big difference to the room, as well as a simple sofa, lamp, coffee table and rug. These are the staples! Ikea, Pottery Barn, West Elm would be your best bets so that you don't overpay. Good Luck!
One thing I love is canvas prints…check out a craft store and pick up some blank canvas to create your own custom art work. Use your favorite colors to make simple big print art to hang on your walls it will help give you that color pop.. Also keep an eye out at home stores for mis matched paint at a discount to use to help you paint and re vamp your furniture you do find.
This is also the perfect time to hit up yard sales too!
