Finding Cheap Apartments in Atlanta

The word “cheap” has some unfortunate connotations, and the term “cheap apartments” may bring to mind visions of run-down dives with peeling paint, worn carpets and pest infestation.

The fact is, nothing could be further from the truth; there is an abundance of inexpensive rental units (or “cheap digs,” if you will) available in Atlanta, Georgia, that are modern, clean and well-maintained. The blank” href=”http://www.apartments-in-atlanta.com/”>price of cheap apartments in Atlanta really depends on how far you’re willing to live from the congested downtown area and how much living space you need.

At the bottom of the price scale are studio apartments. To the uninitiated, a “studio” is a very small, basic, two-room unit in which the bedroom, living room, dining room and kitchen are all in one area, with a small bathroom off to one side. These are very economical not only to rent (prices start at around $400 per month) but also in terms of utilities. Atlanta apartments for graduate students frequently fall into this category, and are ideal for those attending one of the area’s many colleges or trade schools.

Studio apartments in Atlanta tend to be 400 – 600 square feet and average around $510 per month – ideal for a single person who simply needs a place to eat and sleep. Rents can be somewhat higher closer in to town center, but when the cost and upkeep of an automobile is considered, one may find it much more economical to spend more in rent in order to avoid commuting costs (not to mention hassle).

The next level of Atlanta apartments in terms of rental price are of course, one bedroom units. One bedroom apartments in Atlanta are a typical choice of young married couples or couples without children; the privacy of a separate bedroom allows for entertaining (or for one to get away from the other at times!) A one bedroom apartment in Atlanta starts at around $550 per month, but can go as high as $1000, depending on location; the median price is about $650.

One bedroom apartments in Atlanta also vary in terms of square footage. Some are as small as 500 square feet; others may be as much as 1000. How much square footage will affect the rental price as well as the location.

If you are planning a move to the Atlanta area, it definitely pays to do some comparison shopping. Many apartments in Atlanta offer move-in deals (such as a free month), or are pet friendly (some limitations on size may apply). Many Atlanta apartments maintain websites, and even allow one to take a “virtual tour” of the units the offer.

You probably can but it wont be nice if it is in the city. Your best bet would be to find a roomate or two. Or to find a room for rent. The further away from Atlanta, the cheaper you can find. Try looking into the east side of town, like Decatur, Stone mountain, Dekalb area.

You can check roommates.com for a roommate. And Rent.com for an apartment. The south side will be cheaper for apartments. Also look farther from the city. Things are cheaper the farther you are from the city and you can always take MARTA in.

Cheapest I have is $750/mo. So that won't work! I would recommend you look at http://homerentalads.com (not my website but we do advertise through them) and see what you come up with. It has worked well for us in the past. Also do a search for Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC), Atlanta's newspaper. They will have a lot of places advertised for rent.

Best of luck. You will love the Metro-Atlanta area!

    Atlanta: Pork barbecue.
Houston: Beef barbecue (and a hundred other cuisines in 10,000 restaurants).

Houston is obviously far superior to Atlanta.

That is a GREAT deal, in Sydney a $240 studio gets you an old run down studio with a shitty 1940’s kitchen and old floorboards. One like yours here would be round $300, and that would be in a hald decent area

I would suggest you move to the southside like college park eastpoint area. My cousin lives in a really nice apartment in eastpoint called eaglecrest and her rent in only 530 and she has a 2 bedroom 2 bath. It's not the best area but it's no where near the worst neighborhood. It's pretty pieceful I also live near by in college park but I live in a townhouse which is alittle more expensive but the college park eastpoint area near the airport/campcreek is really nice and not that expensive as other parts of town. Camp Creek Marketplace is huge with tons of Restaurants,Target,Publix Grocery Store, A Movie Theater, Barns and Nobles and the commute into atlanta is great no traffic only like 15 minutes into downtown atlanta. I just moved to atlanta last year and I love the southside.

Check Decatur for apartment rentals. It's a quaint little town with a Marta station on the East West line. I like living here! It has the advantage of being home to the Emory University Campus, too.

Be careful with craigslist, though. It is too easy to get swindled because there's little or no screening of listings. Instead, I'd check http://www.rent.com or contact an agency once you get here. When I was looking for an apartment I used http://www.apartmentfinders.com. You don't pay the agency, the landlord does!

My friend from Paris likes to stay in the Residence Inn or Hyatt downtown, but I doubt these are cheap accommodations. You might be better off to get a hotel further away and rent a car for the first few days.

Hi JM, many, many years ago I was in the same situation as you and I blindly moved across the country. I will tell you that things worked out just great, in fact I never left and still live on the West Coast. I was aggressive, and persuasive and confident. Here are some websites/resources for you. Trust yourself, be strong and it will be fine. I wish you all the very best. Email me if you want or need any moral support!

All the areas you listed are pretty safe areas. I've lived in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody for 4 years and never had any break-ins or ever been shot or near a shoot-out. Buckhead is luxury living and Midtown is pretty nice. you're gonna have to be careful anywhere you go but those areas are fine. When I moved to Atlanta from Oklahoma I used an agency called Promove they helped me find apartments in decent areas based on my budget so I'm sure that they will be able to help you find something. They also went with me to view all the apartments. My suggestion would be to go to the locations and look at the apartments before leasing an apartment because pictures online can be decieving. Also when you view apartments (in person) ask to see a vacant apartment NOT the model. I did that one time and the day I moved in that apartment is the day I moved out because it was a mess and loaded with roaches. Also I would suggest if you find an apartment that you would consider living in go and drive around the complex at night so you can see the atmousphere. Hope that helps. The people at promove were real honest with me about what areas to avoid and what areas to live in. here is the website http://www.promove.com/ Hope this helps… Good luck

oh by the way don't pick an apartment just because it has a gate because there are sh*ty apartments that have gates and some apartment complexes have the gate open 24-7 so make sure to view the apartments in person before selecting one.

A two bedroom apartment in a lower end Manhattan neighborhood will cost you about $2500 a month. You won't be able to get a job without the proper paperwork, and they won't approve the paperwork for a singer.

Please don't come to the US illegally. There are enough illegals in the US, not all of them are Mexican there is a fair share of Canadians also.
